It is no secret that Tollywood stars Mahesh Babu and Allu Arjun are aggressive when it comes to brand endorsements. Both these stars tend to associate with multiple brands every year and also roll out ads pertaining to these brands. Needless to say, they are paid handsomely for their contributions.
Cut to now, the government of India has bought in a new order that restricts the free run of star celebrities from doing ad films left right center.
As per the latest government order, a star celebrity can endorse a brand or a product only after they’ve personally used the product or the service.
In case they take monetary gain from doing the endorsement, then it should be clearly mentioned that the said content is an advertisement, collaboration, partnership or other related words should be used to describe the same.
All the while, stars used to endorse brands left right center without much thought process behind it. There was an implication that they were personally using these products. But that might not be the case from here on as the government has bought in the mentioned order.
While this might not overtly affect Mahesh, Allu Arjun, and several other superstars across India who do endorsements, it might serve as a statutory message for the public that these stars won’t necessarily use these products. It could be considered as an awareness campaign.
