So finally after more than a decade the court is going to give its final verdict on the hit and run case of the Bollywood star Salman Khan on May 6. Naturally everyone from the fans to the trade has turned all their attention to the court to see what verdict it comes up with.
Salman Khan for the past few years, starting from Dabangg, has been a box office force like never seen before in India. He has been delivering one 100 Cr grosser after other just at drop of a hat making him the most sealable and valuable star in India in Bollywood at the moment. It’s the volume that makes him the star he is when compared with his contemporaries. When such a star in under threat it would for sure have repercussions on the industry and hence the tension in Bollywood.
The trade says more than 200 Cr are riding on the star from his upcoming two movies alone. In an year that is struggling to give one genuine blockbuster, a Salman Khan is seen as a messiah for the distributors and exhibitors. Just the mention of the fact that the trailer of his next film would be released with a film has increased the eyeballs on the said movie, such is the star’s clout at the moment.
While all this is commercial aspect there is the moral aspect with the verdict that emphasizes on justice. How would the fans react? There is always the option of going to the higher court challenging the decision but if a judgment is made either way, would that put a black spot on the star who is running away “being human”?
