It’s true that films that were scheduled to release in the months of March, April 2020 have been literally suffering and the most affected would be the producers. In this scenario, a fake rumour is making rounds on the web.
According to the rumour, Amazon Prime has offered Rs. 35 crores for Nani’s movie ‘V’ with Indraganti Mohan Krishna. This amount is way too much for any OTT platform according to the return of the investment perspective as OTT revenue will be subscription-based, not advertisement-based.
So, releasing on OTT platforms may be a good idea for small-budget movies but not for the heroes who have made a name for themselves. They must keep the trade perspective in mind before taking such decisions.
A hero like Nani can’t afford to go directly for OTT release as it will hurt his career. However, the finances included will be a huge burden for the producer because of the amount of the interest piling up. It’s a very difficult time for production houses.
I am hearing from few producers whose films are slated for release in these months that certain OTT platforms offered up to 90% of the budget. But producers, directors and heroes want their films to give theatrical experience (biggest experience of all formats) and are waiting!

Don’t believe in rumours that some of the films slated for March/April/May release might directly release on OTT. The budgets won’t allow such a drastic measure. OTT operates on subscription base, not on ad revenues. You wouldn’t even get 10-20% of budget recovered on OTT.

Whatever small Telugu films that are releasing on OTT are not bought by OTT, but are released by producer on sharing basis. OTT pays a certain amount per hour of viewing. Hence, producer gets money as per the performance of the film on OTT. There is performance pressure!
