Exclusivity is New MantraAkshay Kumar’s Selfie was released this week. The film flopping badly is not the issue, the audience didn’t even give it a chance in the first place. There was no audience on the first day resulting in a collection of just Rs. 2.5 crores net.

The reviews suggest that it is the best Akshay Kumar film in the last two years, but still, the audience hasn’t turned up and the film failed to show any growth. So what went wrong?

One of the primary reasons for this is the fact that Akshay Kumar has kind of been everywhere and has been promoting himself at every given opportunity. Also, he has been making films like a machine, one after the other without focusing on the scripts and overall content.

Meanwhile, SRK’s Pathaan is a classic example of how audiences crave to see their favorite stars on the big screen if they maintain their exclusivity and keep some parts of their life a mystery.

Shah Rukh Khan chose to keep himself away from the media, didn’t give any interviews, or do any promotions on any TV show. He wanted the trailer and the songs to speak for the film. This upped the curiosity levels and the audience couldn’t wait to see SRK on the big screen.

Even in Telugu, some stars want to put out their entire personal and social life on social media. Sometimes audience loses interest when a star overdoes PR gimmicks, posting airport pics, family pics, and whatnot on social media.

There are some stars like NTR and Prabhas who maintain their exclusivity by meeting and greeting fans only prior to the movie’s release. This retains a sense of mystery and audiences will come to theatres to see their work on the big screen as was the case with King Khan’s Pathaan.

It is best for stars to be visible on the big screen and not at any and every event. Giving interviews, left, right, and center, promoting their films on TV shows, etc, etc. kills the excitement for the audience. Exclusivity is the new mantra. Less is more!
