With the superb and overwhelming response for Mahesh Babu’s ‘Srimanthudu’, EROS International is finally out of the jinx of producing flop pictures like ‘Kochadaiiyaan’ and ‘Lingaa’. This film studio is coming up with 12 South films this financial year.
This turn can be accorded to block busters like ‘Baahubali’ grabbing eye balls of pan Indian audiences. And EROS ‘Srimanthudu’ certainly gave a good start to the production company this financial year. Many big companies which have been producing Hindi films, began evincing interest in regional movies exploring South film markets.
The Southern market is going to be exploited by EROS by a 360 approach, which means the production studio would be involved in various aspects of the film’s production like it may produce a film all by itself, or co-produce a film with others or else acquire the distribution rights of promising films with big stars and promising talent as well.
While 70% of the budget for a financial year goes to Bollywood films, the remaining 30% will come to regional films and its mammoth share to South films. EROS has Telugu, Tamil and Malayalam films for release this FY16. It’s going to foray into producing Marathi movies even. Our own ‘Dictator’ and ‘Sardaar Gabbar Singh’ are among the 12 films to be released this year.
