baby with elephant trunkHere is an interesting anecdote from Aligarh, Uttar Pradesh. A babygirl was born on Thurday to a couple who make their living by selling vegetables and domestic help in some houses. This was the fourth child of the couple and people were literally shocked to see the extention between the two eyes of the baby which they have equated to the trunk of Lord Ganesha.

In a country where even genetic disorder patterns on leaves of pea plants appeared like Lord Ganesha’s pictures and people believed that Ganesha idols are drinking milk while scientists claim it as capillary action, it is no surprise that a distorted face of a newborn which seemed like an elephant trunk made people to worship the baby girl as incarnation of ‘Lord Ganesha’ calling her ‘Ganapatni’.

Since the news came out, the ‘Ganesha’ concept spread very soon and people are found flocking to the newborn to have a look at the baby who got this distorted face apparently because of malnutrition, pollution, many other vices of poverty and living condition in slums leading to genetic mutation. While the family and people believe that babygirl brings luck to family as she is Ganesha’s incarnation, doctors are really concerned as such babies’ chances of survival are lean.
