Dil Raju's 'Judgement' - A Big Myth?Dil Raju’s Thank You had released yesterday and registered horrendous numbers right from the matinees. The movie is heading towards a disaster of epic proportions.

Dil Raju and writer BVS Ravi traveled with this script for years together and the producer repeatedly said the script is all about his judgment and involvement. But that has wrong very badly.

Dil Raju is 49 films old in the industry and yes, there is so much talk about Dil Raju’s judgment but one glance at his filmography, the judgment is a big myth.

Dil, Arya, Bhadra, Bommarillu, Kotha Bangaru Lokam, Brindavanam, Mr. Perfect, and SVSC – the major hits of Dil Raju have come early in his career i.e., between 2003 and 2013.

Things have gone really bad in the last ten years. There are a handful of hits for Dil Raju like Fidaa, MCA, Raja The Great, F2, etc but not one of them gave complete satisfaction.

They have worked due to various reasons like flukes but there is no complete film like Bommarillu or Arya. During the same time, the flops are almost double or triple the hits in this decade.

Last four years after MCA are every worse, barring F2 nothing worked. Along with the commerce, the content is also pretty ordinary bringing doubts over Dil Raju’s judgment.

We have seen him burn hands in Bollywood as well.

There are producers who rarely interfere in the creative process. Even if they do, they do not say it in public. Only Dil Raju flaunts the ‘interference’ openly and the industry accepts that as ‘judgment’.

Dil Raju is immune to flops unlike other producers because he has the distribution and theaters network in his hold. Also, he ensures that the budgets are kept in check and are easily recoverable with non-theatrical rights.

Even if the film bombs, he keeps the losses to the minimum.

There are many projects just to keep the budgets under control and then market them on Dil Raju’s brand.

There are many projects that happened just for the sake of advances he already paid even if he is sure the director can not deliver.

But the longevity can not sustain so long with the radical changes the industry is undergoing after the pandemic.

Irrespective of the hits and flops, Dil Raju has been the most active producer in the industry for many years. He kept on making films and ensured the industry running. The industry needs him to survive.

Dil Raju is taking a giant leap with big-budget films like #RC15 and Varisu. The margin of error will be too less in such big films. He has to tread carefully.

Thank You is a big warning. Probably, it’s time for Dil Raju to assess if his judgment is really right. It is also important for him to give the space for the directors to use their own judgment just for a change.
