Ajay Devgn is coming up with Drishyam 2. The film is a sequel to Drishyam released in 2015 which was an average fare at the box office. Over the years, the film has developed a cult fan base due to its viewership on television. Like Drishyam, Drishyam 2 is also a remake of Mohan Lal’s Malayalam version.
As we have seen in the post-Covid era, the audience is not showing any interest in remake films. Films like Jersey, Antim, Vikram Vedha, and GodFather have fallen flat on their faces. But Drishyam 2 has recorded good advance bookings for its first week.
Almost 1.25 Lakh tickets have been sold which is a pretty good result. The advance bookings for Drishyam 2 are better than original films like Samrat Prithviraj, Gangubai Kathiawadi, Ram Setu, Laal Singh Chaddha, and even Bhool Bhulaiya 2.
Despite the remake factor, it seems the audience is excited to watch how Ajay Devgn will dodge the police and save his family.
The main reason for Drishyam 2 attracting the Hindi audience to the theaters is that the Hindi version of the Malayalam or Telugu version is not available on OTT. So most of the Hindi audience hasn’t seen the original which has resulted in getting good bookings for the film.
There are reports that producers of Drishyam 2 (Hindi) have paid a bomb to stop the Hindi version of the original from releasing on OTT or Youtube.
