In the male-dominated film industry, even the top actresses equal paycheck is a myth till recently. However, Bollywood actress like Deepika Padukone, Kangana Ranaut have long since asking for equal pay along with their male counterparts.
Looks like, the makers of Prabhas‘ next movie, Vyjayanthi Movies with director Nag Ashwin had to give in to the demands of Deepika to bring her on board for the prestigious project. Nevertheless, the demand for equal pay wasn’t met.
Reportedly, Deepika Padukone would be paid Rs, 20 crores, but her remuneration is nowhere near Prabhas’ half remuneration that was said to be Rs. 50 crores. Certainly, Deepika has earned a place for herself, but the current craze is Prabhas who would draw crowds to the theatres.
That’s how the market dynamics work when it comes to commercial cinema with male counterparts who carry the burden of the movie on their shoulders right from marketing to attracting the audiences. In female-oriented films, it’s the female actress who would be dominating the roles.
