Post the phenomenal success of Geetha Govindam and pulling Taxiwala to safety, after a much-delayed release, Vijay Deverakonda has raised his profile as a star. Unlike the previous films, there will be expectations now, and he will have to deliver to improve his position as a star.
The first parameter for any star is openings, and on that front, Vijay Deverakonda hasn’t had a big one. Geetha Govindam was sensational, but it had a limited release. With Dear Comrade, he is again in the same territory.
Dear Comrade is getting a moderately good release, and the advances too are reasonable as of now. The seriousness of the content and lack of blockbuster songs is partially the reason for the bookings so far. If the talk from the US premieres comes out positive, that is when the real star power of Vijay Devarakonda could be seen. One shouldn’t mistake that with the ‘content’ as even good content needs the star power to reach the maximum audience.
As of now, Dear Comrade seems set to have the second-biggest opening for Vijay Deverakonda behind Geetha Govindam. But, it all could change pretty quickly with word of mouth.
