Sampath Nandi is one of the young commercial directors in Telugu cinema. He is not particularly making any classics, but his forte is lavishly mounted ‘commercial entertainers’ in the strictest sense.

It all started with Yemaindi Ee Vela, a low budget raunchy entertainer for Sampath Nandi. He then went on to make films like Racha, Bengal Tiger and Gautham Nanda with Ram Charan, Ravi Teja and Gopichand respectively. In between, he was also touted to make a film with Pawan Kalyan.

Among the four films Sampath Nandi has done across the decade, three are successful. His last outing Goutham Nanda was a disaster. However, surprisingly the director picked it as the best film he has made, so far. It is surprising because he has a better commercially successful film with a bigger star.

The fact that Sampath Nandi chooses it suggests how well he must have liked the whole creative process. It is definitely reflected in the post-theatrical run of Gautham Nanda. Among the various films that Gopichand has done, it is the one that has found some attention. The movie completed three years of release, today.

Sampath Nandi and Gopichand are coming together with a new movie, Seetimaarr. It is another commercial entertainer from the director but with a sports backdrop. Tamannah plays the heroine. Here’s hoping Sampath Nandi gets to deliver his best again with Seetimaarr and that it also does well commercially.
