Cholesterol reducing substances

Cholesterol, a word that mostly everyone is aware of, is a vital structural component in the human body however it can be harmful in excess. With the increased consumption of junk food in the modern world, increased cholesterol has become a problem for most of the people. The good thing is that several cholesterol reducing food items that occur naturally in the world has been discovered which can be imbibed in our daily lives.

These include high-fiber containing cereal oats which can easily reduce the bad cholesterol or Low-Density Lipoprotein (LDL).Soluble fiber can also be found in apples, pears, kidney beans, barley and prunes. Another very important cholesterol reducing substance is Omega-3 fatty acids, found mostly in fish and lesser amounts in ground flaxseed oil and canola oil, which can lower blood pressure and lessen the risk of developing blood clots. Walnuts, almonds and many other nuts contain large amounts of polyunsaturated fatty acids which reduce the cholesterol in blood. Olive oil can also be very helpful in this case as it contains an effective mix of antioxidants which reduce the ‘bad’ cholesterol.
