Chiru at the Oscars of tourism

Marked as an equal to Oscars, the World Travel Awards is very important to the travel and tourism business. Even more important was the fact that it was the first time in 18 years that it has been held in India now.

With Dubai securing maximum number of awards being six, India received the credit for leading destination, tourism board named India Tourism and tourist attraction for the 7th wonder, the Taj Mahal. The location of this splendid event was none other than the ‘World’s Leading Luxury Hotel’ award winnner for the second consecutive year, The Oberoi Gurgaon.

K. Chiranjeevi, the Minister of state for tourism appearing like a celebrity in his power suit, gave away the awards while he remarked, “We have seen 6.29 million tourist arrivals this year and there’s been an 8.98 per cent growth in the numbers.”

Others awards for India were bagged by Maharajah’s Express, Raj Palace in Jaipur and the Holiday Inn Express in Ahmedabad.
