Godfather was projected as the next pan-India film from Tollywood. The combo of Chiranjeevi and Salman Khan was expected to take the Bollywood box office by storm. But the trade is shell shocked by the opening day collections in the North belt.
Even in the worst scenario, the film was expected to take an opening of 4-5 crores in the Hindi belt. But going by the trends till yesterday night, it will be a miracle if the film touches the 1 crore mark.
Chiranjeevi’s Sye Raa (Hindi) collected 2.5 crores net on its first day in 2019 in a clash with Hrithik Roshan’s WAR. Godfather will fail to touch that figure. Some trade experts are predicting that the film will fail to cross even 1 crore, which is shockingly poor.
The Salman Khan factor also didn’t work at all as the audience just was not interested. This is one more blow for the Bollywood superstar who is reeling under flops like Radhe, Dabanng 3, and Antim.
Godfather was released in more than 500 screens in Hindi. In Telugu states, the film has opened well but not up to the standards of Megastar.
