Sye Raa starring Megastar Chiranjeevi is the next ultra biggie to come out from Telugu cinema. As has been mentioned before, the fate of Saaho and Sye Raa are intertwined. Now that, Saaho is going to be losing proposition, the pressure has increased on Sye Raa to deliver.
While Saaho’s success would have boosted the box office prospects of the Megastar starrer, it is doing the opposite now. We have reported how Charan, the producer, is facing the heat for overseas right. It is going to be the same in the other territories as well. Sye Raa is not likely to get the high premium prices; it was earlier supposed to get.
The distributors are wary of putting high amounts in acquiring the rights in various regions. Most of the areas are already sold, and hence, it is about the hires and other share guarantees. It would make then see green much before the actual theatrical screening.
In Hindi, there is already a big competition to deal with, in War. There is positivity around Sye Raa, but here War team (and its distributors) are looking at locking the best screens. Then there is a segment which feels the Southern Industries aren’t as receptive of Hindi content as they are on South dubbed content. The success of Saaho is working in reverse for Sye Raa, here.
All in all, we have a strange scenario whereby Sye Raa is left with no option but to deliver. Only then, all these issues will clear out and exhibitors would be happy. A consecutive debacle could be a massive blow to all involved. Let’s see what Sye Raa has in store, as it gets ready to hit screens in less than a month.
