The untimely demise of Kannada superstar Puneeth Rajkumar has come as a rude shock to the South Indian film industry. Several Tollywood stalwarts, including Jr NTR, Nandamuri Balakrishna, Chiranjeevi, Venkatesh, Rana, Nagarjuna, and other paid their final respects to Puneeth’s mortal remains.
However, the Tamil film industry, as an entity has not shown much of a reaction to the sad passing away of Puneeth. Sivakarthikeyan is the only Tamil cinema personality who flew to Bengaluru to meet with Puneeth’s family and express his grief.
Vishal vowed to take forward Puneeth’s education program that benefited 1800 students. But that is just about it. Top stars like Ajith, Vijay, Vijay Sethupathi, and others didn’t even pay a courtesy visit to Bengaluru.
Now, it is heard that the reason why Kollywood did not react much to Puneeth’s demise is the controversial Kavery waters distribution dispute that damaged the relationship between Tamil Nadu and Karnataka. If that really is the case, this really is a cheap reason to ignore the demise of one of South India’s most loved cinema personalities.
