Ram Charan made a grand debut with regular commercial potboiler Chirutha. All people cared about this film was could Charan settle himself as a hero in Telugu cinema and the answer that Charan gave with the film made even the naysayers to calm down. He then following it up with the epic Magadheera which earned him liker’s all over. It was followed by a complete love story Orange which flopped badly.
This is what everyone else sees too except that people sometimes fail to connect the dots. So the disastrous performance of Orange was one thing and disastrous performance from entire Mega family at that point was another thing that many miss when they look at choices that Charan was forced to make later. Ram Charan who despite the debacle of Orange wanted to continue his variety in subjects with Merupu was forced to change the route and sign on some out and out mass entertainers to satisfy the huge Mega fan base. The result of this decision was Racha, Naayak, Thoofan and Yevadu.
The objective of scoring big success was achieved but in the process the actor branded as someone who is doing routine masala movies for success with absolutely no variety in it. This branding took away a segment of his family audience in urban centers and effected the collections in Nizam and overseas big time. Luckily for him though post Racha other members of Mega family too finally struck gold at box office giving him time to relax and rethink his future course.
The actor now is taking all the care with subjects and has signed some completely new subjects which would take him close to the family and class segment of the audience. The target is primarily the Nizam and overseas audience where the actor is lacking. As we already know the actor is doing a Krishna Vamsi film even after that there are talks going around with director Dasarath for another family movie. Apart from these two there is a Trivikram project which is expected to be a collage based love story and an AR Murugadoss film which is again said to be a completely fresh love story.
Unlike the pre Racha phase where Charan had to single handedly take care of the entire Mega fan base now with Pawan Kalyan also being in form he is able to take a back seat and plan films working on his weakness. However only time will tell if this new class movie strategy will work out for him or not.
