Call it the negligence of team RRR or the lack of coordination; it is left with no open space in Bollywood. Practically a release each week has been confirmed now.
The only slot available, which many thought was left to RRR, has been usurped now. It is the first week of January. Alia Bhatt’s Gangubai Kathiawadi has announced its release date as January 6th, 2022. Sanjay Leela Bhansali directs the movie.
Not only is the release date blocked, Ajay Devgn also play critical roles in Gangubai Kathaiwadi. Remember, they (Alia and Ajay) are roped in for crucial roles in RRR, as well. They are taken especially for the Bollywood market. Imagine their films releasing back to back or on the same date?
The line-up of Bollywood is filled with medium to big films until the end of March. It means if RRR indeed arrives in January, it will have to clash with another movie and also face competition in subsequent weeks. We have to see how long the RRR team remains mum with no date on the anvil.
RRR has had the biggest pre-release business of all time in Indian cinema. The clash seems inevitable now in other languages. It will make the chances of recovery difficult, for sure. We have to see how they manage to come out of this predicament.
SS Rajamouli directs the epic period film RRR. It stars Jr NTR and Ram Charan in the lead, with MM Keeravani, provides the music. DVV Danayya is the producer.
