Suriya- Theatres associationSuriya‘s recent release ‘Soorarai Pottru’ aka ‘Aakasam Nee Haddura’ is the only South Indian big film that worked big time on OTT platforms after a direct digital release during the pandemic. Theatre Owners Association literally spewed venom on the actor and his family members for releasing their big-ticket films on OTT platforms.

Suriya’s film skipped the theatrical release but was a blockbuster and what if it was released in theatres? Surely, it would have been a rage as the reach of the theatres is certainly wider than OTT platforms. But, that’s a gone thing and throwing stones on Suriya for bygone things isn’t going to stop even now.

At a media interaction event, Tamil Nadu Theatre Owners and Multiplex Association’s General Secretary took a dig at Suriya and his family calling them as the only family trying to close the theatrical business. He didn’t take Suriya’s name but implied the same in his speech.

He also reminded that Suriya rose from a Tier-C actor to an A-lister only because of the theatres. Adding insult to the injury, the general secretary praised Vijay Ilayapathy, Dhanush and other big stars for releasing their films in theatres, only. Looks like, the big blame game isn’t going to stop anytime soon.
