Birds continue to pose risk for Planes!While man with advanced technology is intruding in the air space of birds, Bird Strikes are very common. Until a couple of decades ago, they used to even create air accidents. However due to improved resilience and backup mechanisms, accidents are averted but the risk continues.

According to data available with Director General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), Delhi airport recorded the maximum number of bird hits, 146 which means on an average almost 12 bird hits every month. Following Delhi are Mumbai (69), Ahmedabad (61), Kolkata (55), Hyderabad (34), Kochi (24), Chennai (22) and Bengaluru (18).

The menace of bird strikes is increasing year-on-year in Delhi. From 108 bird hits in 2011, the numbers rose to 129 in 2013.The number was 107 in 2012. Hyderabad airport has recorded the maximum number of bird hits among the southern states in 2014.
