Vishwaroopam

Reputed film actor Kamal Haasan who recently went through a controversy regarding his film Vishwaroopam seems to be of the firm belief that banning a movie from being shown is wrong and violation of a person’s freedom of expression. As it is widely known, Vishwaroopam had faced a ban fom the Tamil Nadu government following protests from some Islamic communities although it was finally released in Tamil Nadu this week after Haasan managed to reach a compromise with some Muslim outfits who had opposed the film.

Taking example of films like ‘Kadal’ and ‘Aadhi Bhagavan’ which have been facing problems in the state, Haasan believes that banning of the films are quickly becoming a trend and it needs to be challenged, if not by the government, then by the people. In this context it is important to maintain that most of the film community was behind Haasan during the whole ordeal.
