In a short nine-film career, Vijay Deverakonda is witnessing terrific highs and dismal lows. Like the star heroes of the previous generation, Vijay Deverakond scored three back to back blockbusters in the form of Pelli Choopulu (2016), Arjun Reddy (2017) and Geetha Govindam (2018). Since then, it has been a struggle, though.
Barring the decent success of the delayed Taxiwala, the other movies NOTA, and Dear Comrade have been disastrous at the box office. World Famous Lover, Vijay Deverakonda’s latest release is also expected to follow suit. It means three disasters in the last four releases.
The upcoming movie of Vijay Deverakonda is in the direction of Puri Jagannadh. It is sure to have sensational openings due to the first time combination, but the end result is dependent on the content, which puts it in risk category given the form. Is it, therefore, a doom ahead for Vijay Deverakonda if the Puri’s flick doesn’t click?
That’s where we have to say, it is not so gloomy, after all. Vijay Deverakonda has multiple lifelines in hand due to the past work he has done trusting young talents. Anyone of Tharun Bhascker, Sandeep Reddy Vanga, Parasuram and Nag Ashwin can work with him, and the project will automatically get crazy expectations. It is because of the kind of films they have done the first time around. A couple of them are true classics for the current generation.
In short, Vijay Deverakonda still has a lot left to make a mark as a star. The only question is picking the right subjects with commercial aspects in mind, a little bit. Trying to aim for classics have to take a backseat, a little bit. Not every film has to be made with the same mindset. Let’s see how it goes.
