Avatar 2 U.S.A Box OfficeThe world of the extrasolar moon Pandora and the family of Jake and Neytiri in Avatar: The Way Of Water has pulled audiences to the theatres despite the horrible winter weather.

The season saw the release of Paramount’s glitzy showbiz epic Babylon which also stars Brad Pitt and is aiming for an Oscar entry. It barely made $3.6 million from 3343 venues. The year was good for Universal with Top Gun: Maverick and thriller Smile, but Babylon ended it on a sour note.

Meanwhile, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever is nearing the $800 million mark, adding both domestic and global collections.

Avatar: The Way of Water grossed an opening weekend haul of $134.1 million. Jurassic World: Dominion was released on June 10, 2022, to an opening weekend haul of $145 million. Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness was released on May 6, 2022, to an opening weekend haul of $187.4 million. Black Panther: Wakanda Forever was released on November 11, 2022, to an opening weekend box office haul of $181.3 million.

Avatar 2 sailed to the top of the box office in its 2nd weekend, bringing in a strong $56 million in the U.S. Trade analysts say that this is Cameron’s first $100 million opener and for this movie to have opened that big and only dropped 58% in its second weekend, which is not an alarming sign. It shows that the film has strong legs.

Globally, The Way of Water is already the third highest-grossing film released in 2022, bringing in $855 million — putting it behind only Top Gun: Maverick and Jurassic World Dominion — and is a lock to surpass $1 billion.
