Tolly-heroines

It’s sad but true that heroines in southern cinema are merely looked at as commodities of entertainment. They have to dance, shed clothes and romance heroes twice their age in every other film. It amazes me that they have been doing this for generations and the only thing that has changed is the level of commercialism. Barring few actress, who have tried something offbeat, others have merely been used for commercial purposes.

Why can’t we see southern heroines in full fledged women-centric films ala Vidya Balan in Kahaani and Dirty Picture or Rani Mukherjee in Black? We are not less talented than others but we are just too scared to try something innovative and out-of-the-box.

All young actresses such as Kajal Agarwal, Samantha, Tamannah, Charmi and many more have only been featured in romantic stories. Even if there is a film made with women for a purpose, it comes once in a very long time. I think it’s high time our heroines demand challenging roles that they would be proud to be part of.
