The truncated Andhra Pradesh is emerging as a lead in Liquor sales in the entire South India. consuming Indian Made Liquor and beer much more than those in Telangana, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and Kerala. Figures suggest that the state will become the Number One beer consumer in an year and top in IML consumption in about two years in the country.
In 2014-15, the state had seen a growth of 4.9 per cent in revenue through the sale of whisky, brandy, rum etc where as during the same time, Karnataka registered 4.1 per cent, Tamil Nadu 1.83 per cent, Telangana 1.19 per cent and Kerala minus 2.93 per cent.
And in the beer sales, AP registered the highest growth than any other state in the country by registering a 13.61 per cent rise in the last three years. Our neighbouring states, Tamil Nadu recorded a growth of minus 3.80%, Kerala -1.15 per cent and Karnataka 6.10 per cent. Interestingly, all other southern states have more area and population than Andhra Pradesh yet it recorded impressive growth. Liquor income is the second biggest revenue earner after commercial taxes for the state coffers.
