Amazon's 'Dangerous' OTT Trend With SVPAmazon Prime is extensively incorporating its rental service for mainstream South Indian films. Recently, Amazon dropped KGF 2 on rental basis. Now, the OTT giant has dropped Mahesh Babu’s Sarkaru Vaari Paata.

Sarkaru Vaari Paata can now be streamed on Amazon Prime Video on rent basis. The users can pay Rs 199 and watch the film on Amazon Prime Video.

Sarkaru Vaari Paata is a far way off the break-even mark but the film is registering decent revenues over the weekends. It is posting notable theatrical revenues. However, that didn’t stop the makers from orchestrating early OTT release (rental) for the film.

Netizens are now commenting that this early OTT release trend for big films can have a negative impact on the cinema-goers. “When big hero films are streaming on OTT just 3 weeks post the theatrical release, how can we expect the audience to come to theatres to watch the films? This is a dangerous trend,” a netizen commented.

Moreover, the OTT audience don’t appear to be keen on the pay-per-view model. The majority of the OTT crowd is ready to wait till these films are available for streaming in the conventional manner. Also, this early rental service is giving scope for piracy, which would in turn come back to haunt the OTT platforms.
