Amazon Banking Big On Flop DirectorPreviously, one of the leading OTT platforms, Amazon Prime Video, was more interested in acquiring the post-theatrical streaming rights of Telugu films. Right from star-studded films to a medium and small range, Amazon Prime has a wide collection of Telugu films.

But in recent times, Amazon started focusing more on making Telugu originals. As a first attempt, the OTT platform is making a Telugu original anthology titled Modern Love: Hyderabad.

Starring Nithya Menen, Ritu Varma, Aadhi Pinnisetty, Bigg Boss fame Abhijeet, and Komalee Prasad, among others in key roles, the promotional trailer for the web film was unveiled yesterday. Trailer hints that the film is going to showcase multiple shades and emotions in Love through various characters in six episodes.

The three episodes in the anthology are directed by Nagesh Kukunoor. The director’s last film, Good Luck Sakhi with Keerthy Suresh, was a washout at the box office. Nagesh Kukunoor was once an innovative and sensible director with films like Hyderabad Blues and Iqbal, but he has completely lost touch in recent years. It is surprising that Amazon Prime is banking big on someone who is out of form.

The other episodes in the anthology are directed by Venkatesh Maha (C/o Kancherapalem fame), Uday Gurrala, and Devika Bahudhanam, who are also not very experienced makers.

The Hindi version of the series Modern Love: Mumbai also didn’t do too well when it was released a few months ago on the same platform.

Let’s see if the gamble pays off in Telugu.
