Akkineni Nagarjuna and Naga Chaitanya starrer Bangarraju has had a superb weekend at the box office. The Sankranthi holidays have helped it big time. Its real test, however, is yet to come.
In its opening weekend, Bangarraju has collected nearly 22Cr from the Telugu states. It is a little lesser than our previous estimates mainly due to underperformance in Nizam territory. In all other areas, Bangarraju is doing well.
The overall Worldwide numbers are less than 24 Cr according to trade estimates. The lack of shows in Karnataka (weekend lockdown) hurt Bangarraju’s prospects big time during the weekend. The same was the case in the US, where the shows couldn’t happen due to delays in sending content.
The good news is Bangarraju is performing excellently on its first Monday. It helps that today is a partial holiday in Andhra Pradesh. The bad news is that it would be 50% occupancy in theatres in Andhra Pradesh from tomorrow. Even Telangana state is also mulling to impose night curfew from January 18th. An official confirmation is awaited, though.
Bangarraju has to collect over 39 Cr to achieve a break even. The real test, therefore, starts tomorrow. Watch this space for our genuine update on the latest box office collections.
