Nandamuri Balakrishna’s Akhanda has come as a surprise at the US Box Office. The movie has taken a bumper opening for its premieres collecting $331,803. It is the highest Premiere Grosser for Telugu film industry in 2021.
It has crossed the previous bests of 2021 – Love Story $313,150 and Vakeel Saab $300,557. Interestingly, both Love Story and Vakeel Saab are overseas audience-friendly content while Akhanda is out and out mass entertainer. Both Balayya and Boyapati are considered weak there.
We will have to see how things pan out over the weekend. The movie marks the return of Telugu Cinema in the United States. The market has been pretty subdued after the second wave. Except for Love Story, no film performed bare minimum in the US.
Even Love Story just scrapped through. Akhanda will be a big boost for the trade there ahead of the big releases season.
