Airtel gets Vishwaroopam rights

The formal announcement of Kamal Haasan’s upcoming film Vishwaroopam’s premier on the Pay Per View (PPV) platform of Airtel digital TV, was made yesterday. The movie will be released in three languages which are Tamil, Telugu and Hindi on Airtel’s DTH service. While the film will have the same name in Tamil and Telugu, in Hindi it is titled as Vishwaroop. It will be first movie in India to premier through Direct-to-home (DTH) platform before its theatrical release.

The CEO of DTH/ Media of Bharti Airtel, Shashi Arora said “With our 7.5 million customers, we are certain that this will create an all new avenue for movie releases in India.”

Arora further stated, “There is zero ambiguity in taking up a Kamal Haasan movie to be broadcasted as premier, since people would love to watch it in whichever platform it is in.” It is reported that the company’s deal with Kamal Haasan’s production house is based on how many subscribers are likely to watch the movie.

The movie will hit the theatres on January 11, 2013 while on Airtel DTH’s Pay Per View (PPV) it will be presented at 9:30 pm on January 10, 2013 in Tamil, Telugu & Hindi.
