Ahana Kumra who did a commendable job as Leela in Bollywood film ‘Lipstick Under My Burkha‘ has revealed in a recent interview that her producer passed a remark while she was shooting for an intimate scene for her movie, and his remark made her uncomfortable.
She said the same to her director, Alankrita Srivastava who conveyed the message to the producer. The producer, Prakash Jha who was an acclaimed celebrity in Bollywood for making movies that have a social message, understood that the actors need to have their space, left the set though he was the one who was the producer of that movie.
The advent of new-age cinema in Bollywood is quite a visible change when we can see that those new-age concepts being appreciated, and encouraged. ‘Lipstick Under My Burkha’ falls into a category of cinema that talks about the sexual awakening of four women, and space they demand themselves.
The producer’s above-said remark just suggests that sexual awakening was the concept of the movie, but the understanding of the producer and the director might not be the same, necessarily. Hmm!
