We are clearing at the very outset that Powerstar Pawan Kalyan’s next, currently referred as PSPK25, is not going to be anywhere near Baahubali 2. What we are talking here is entirely regarding the opening day numbers.
In the past when Baahubali hit the screens, its opening was humongous, it was more than double of the previous best Atharintiki Daredi. Naturally, many assumed that that opening of Baahubali wouldn’t be broken for a long time to come and only Baahubali 2 will surpass it. That expectation was accurate till Sardar Gabbar Singh came along. It became the first film to break Baahubali in few areas. Khaidi No 150 that happened earlier in the year set a new Day 1 record.
Baahubali 2 arrived few months after Khaidi No 150, and once again it nearly doubled the opening day figure. Two films starring big heroes have come after Baahubali 2, and once again, the impression is that it would be impossible to set a new day one record. Add to it the new taxing structure with GST in place, and everyone believes its impossible.
However, once again Pawan Kalyan is all set to challenge that notion with this upcoming. The right combination with Trivikram Srinivas and a holiday release for Sankranthi is rising the hopes. Already one is getting early estimates regarding the hires for the movie, and it does increase the curio the ity about the opening day coming close or bettering Baahubali 2 in few years.
If and when breaking of Baahubali 2 happens by a regular commercial film, it will be a landmark moment for Telugu cinema for sure. Will PSPK25 be able to achieve or does one have to wait until Sahoo and Sye Raa? We will know within the next two months.
