The Tamil remake of Telugu cult classic Arjun Reddy offers a unique case study as far as remakes are concerned. Do you go for a faithful adaptation or take inspiration from the original and do something fresh? And what happens when one goes wrong on both counts?
Between Varma (the Bala helmed remake) and Adithya Varma, the Girisayya remake – the Arjun Reddy remake has tried both styles of remakes and have managed to make an impact either way barely. Still, given how bad the ‘fresh’ attempt came across; the faithful adaptation looks far better. He debut aspect was the biggest bummer for the former as that could have been a potential career killer. The latter case seems decent now, but, it isn’t anywhere the original which was going to be the case from the beginning given the deep impact of Vijay Deverakonda.
With Adithya Varma, the problem is double fold as the remake now has to endure double comparison. There is the Telugu original, and now we have Kabir Singh as well where Shahid Kapoor is doing well in his zone. Obviously, the Dhruv Vikram version comes across as the weakest. The issue has been the same from the start, the lack of intensity. Compared to Varma, the present version does look better, but it is still the third best.
Check out the teaser of Adithya Varma below. Gireesaaya makes his directorial debut with the movie. Banitha Sandhu of October fame plays the female lead. The film is expected to hit the screens soon.
