The poorly presented teaser of Adipurush has dejected the film in so many ways. After all the backlash from the commoners and critics over the poor VFX, the unit had to alter the release plan. They’ve postponed the release from 12 January to June 16, 2023.
But strangely enough, even with such contemplation the makers have picked the worst possible date for the film.
June 16 is an utterly poor date as it clashes with not one or two but 3 Hollywood biggies – Spider-Man: Across the Spider-verse(2nd June), Transformers: Rise of The Beasts (9 June) and The Flash (23 June).
Al the three films will be holding the vast majority of the screens in the USA. One can only wonder how the distributors of Adipurush can get 3D screens for the film in USA with Marvel, DC, and Transformers franchise films releasing in close proximity.
Then there’s a clash with Shah Rukh Khan’s Jawaan. This film is releasing on 2nd June and it’s one of the better hyped films in SRK’s career. If it gets a good word of mouth, it can go big at the box office. Adipurush will have to face this film and a few other notable releases in June in the North belt.
Then coming to the domestic Telugu market, there’s isn’t a single extended holiday of immediate advantage for the film as it releases on 16 June. Moreover, it’s a college and schools reopening season which isn’t ideal for new theatrical releases.
It is implied that Adipurush is made on a budget of over Rs 500 crore. With so much at stake and this bad release date to deal with, can the film really make a mark at the box office? We have to wait and see.
