35 crores to MPs accommodationUnion development Ministry was taken back by the 35 Crore bill for the 5 star accommodation provided to the MPs who are yet to be allotted official residence in Delhi. Some of the MPs were allotted accommodation but yet to move in there as renovation works are in progress. All these MPs are stationed in The Ashok hotel in Delhi and the bill arrived at 35 Crore.

Some of these MPs keep their rooms locked or occupied by their staff even when they are out of Delhi. The Central government is planning to change the rules so that government will not have to pay the bills the rooms are either locked or occupied by either MPs’ staff or their acquaintances, when the Parliament is not in session.

A suite in Hotel Ashok commands Rs 12,000 a day and a room Rs 9,000. Most of the Lok Sabha members live in the heart of the city’s power district in “MP flats” in North Avenue and South Avenue built close to the Rashtrapati Bhawan.
