Today new film of Powerstar Pawan Kalyan in Trivikram Srinivas’s direction was launched silently and in a few days from now, the new movie of Superstar Mahesh Babu under Koratala Siva’s direction would be launched. Both these stars already have a film on sets which are expected to be completed by early 2017. It means they will have two releases each next year, something that hasn’t happened in a very long time.
In the twenty and fifteen years since their respective debuts, Pawan Kalyan has dominated Mahesh Babu whenever they had films released in the same year or in close proximity. In terms of openings there never has been a comparison but when it comes to full run Mahesh Babu had been the winner twice with Pokiri and Dookudu.
Can 2017, finally prove to be a year of total domination of Mahesh Babu over Pawan Kalyan? When we speak of total domination, it means, opening day, opening week and final run. The last time they had two releases each in 2006, Mahesh Babu had an industry hit Pokiri and still he wasn’t considered a star on par with Pawan Kalyan. It was because the latter had bigger openings than the former on both the occasions and with poor talks, his films performed better as Mahesh Babu also had an all-time disaster Sainikudu the same year.
In 2017, Mahesh Babu is coming with the best possible combination and that too back to back. Pawan, on the other hand, has one weak film and a super strong film. Ideally, Mahesh Babu with his combinations should lead comfortably but can he, is the biggest question. If he can’t the stigma of Powerstar would surely stay with the star and his fans as Pawan would be moving to politics and won’t be that active on movies front. Let’s wait and see how it all pans out but for now, both the fan bases are super charged for the respective stars.
