Mahesh-Babu_Vijay_Ajith box office collections

The past weekend was one of the massive weekends ever in the history of cinema in India. Four most anticipated biggies released over the weekend two from Telugu and two from Tamil and combined they have grossed more than a whopping 50 Cr plus. This high gross can be attributed to the fact that these releases have big star attraction in them like Mahesh Babu, Ram Charan for Telugu audience and Vijay and Ajith for the Tamil audience.

Not just in India in overseas too these films combined had a great box office receipt. In the process of these films finally ended the domination of the Bollywood biggie Dhoom 3 which was on a roll in these overseas markets. In places like US, UK, Australia and New Zealand these new released ended the glorious run of Dhoom 3. Whilst in US it was the Telugu biggie 1 Nenokkadine starring Mahesh Babu that did the trick, in UK, Australia and NZ, it was the Tamil films Jilla and Veeram.

In a country like Malaysia the films Jilla and Veeram grossed more in its first weekend than what Dhoom 3 did in its four weekends. However it must be remembered here that Malaysia has been traditionally a big market for Tamil films unlike the Telugu and Hindi, so that is kind of expected. There are also few markets where the Tamil films have opened but aren’t reported. For Telugu films though US covers the most of the overseas territory if not all and hence there is nothing much that can be expected further box office wise.

Among the four Southern films though Superstar Mahesh Babu starrrer 1 Nenokkadine stands tall as the highest grosser over the weekend. Tamil films Jilla and Veeram have the chance to overtake it if they perform well in the coming days in Malaysian market but then 1 Nenokkadine too will be accumulating numbers in US so it will be an interesting battle to see who emerges as the winner in the long run. Since Yevadu is ruled out completely which one among 1 Nenokkadine, Jilla and Veeram you think will be the biggest grosser among the Sankranthi releases in Overseas?

Here are the weekend worldwide grosses of Sankranthi/Pongal releases:

1 Nenokkadine – 5.82 Cr
Jilla –3.69 Cr
Veeram – 2.92 Cr
Yevadu –1.46 Cr (Sat+Sun)
