The theatrical trailer of Bollywood biggest action movie of the year War is out. It stars two action-heroes, Hrithik Roshan and Tiger Shroff, doing what they do best.
The first thing that immediately strikes us is the visuals and action; they are fabulous and stunning. Hrithik Roshan and Tiger Shroff are made for flicks like these, and they take the ‘action’ to a new level with their athleticism and agility. There is a buzz about a dance number also being part of the narrative somewhere in between. So there’s that too to look forward.
Oh, and there is Vaani Kapoor, the heroine, amidst all this mayhem. If her presence didn’t register at all, remember you are not alone.
While all that is positive, the not so likeable aspects are the most crucial ones. The writing seems dumb based on the dialogue samples shown in the trailer. Agreed, there is a student-teacher angle to be milked, but it doesn’t impress beyond the initial banter. One cringes at the mere thought If this is how the rest of the movie is going to be.
And then the story looks like a generic spy gone rouge variety with no depth. In Bollywood itself, there was Neeraj Pandey’s Aiyyari (a box office failure) on similar lines. And it sure looks like War won’t be on that level content-wise.
The best case would be a Tiger Zinda Hai like robust narrative even with a weak storyline. But, given the director Siddharth Anand’s previous attempt in the same action setup Bang Bang, the hopes are surely not high.
