Whenever a hit film is being remade, there would be a lot of pressure on the filmmaker to live up to the expectations by virtue of the original. ‘Ok Jaanu’ is the remake of Mani Ratnam’s Tamil romantic drama ‘Ok Kanmani’.
According to the present talk and reviews on the remake, it didn’t live up to the expectations and the soul of the film isn’t in the right place. It is heavily compared to the original starring Dulquer Salman and Nitya Menen. Aditya Roy Kapoor and Shraddha Kapoor couldn’t weave the same magic as their South counterparts.
In South, films on live-in relationships are very rare. Hence ‘Ok Bangaram’ was a new thing for South audiences. But, in Bollywood, the audiences get to see such films on new-age live-in relationships regularly and they have seen one film ‘Befikre’ very recently. So, ‘Ok Jaanu’ offered nothing new to them.
