Nowadays actresses are making their presence felt doing characters which have enough screen space and have substance rather than being mere glamour dolls. Bollywood megastar’s recent response on his ‘Piku’ co-star Deepika Padukone’s remuneration is a testimony to the fact that, actresses have indeed become the centre of some films.
For ‘Piku’, Deepika Padukone was paid more than Amitabh Bachan. Hence, Mr. Bachan has a doubt whether he lost his price tag because he is there in the industry since long. He also wonders if Deepika’s character in the film is more important and therefore she was paid more.
The characters portrayed by woman actors in our films are changing gradually. Some films have women playing lead roles. Heroines like Kangana Ranaut, Deepika Padukone and Priyanka Chopra are doing films which are capable of doing business in their names. So, even a megastar had to take a backseat when it came to the remuneration.
