manikarnika-teaser-talk-typical-krish-but-louder-and-with-gpsk-hangoverDirector Krish is known to pick interesting subjects. There is not much sound during the making, but once the teaser or trailer arrives, the hype builds all of a sudden. It is because his teaser cuts are slick and sensational more often than not. Manikarnika, his latest offering is a little disappointing on that score.

First of all, we get a major Gautamiputra Satakarni hangover which itself had a lot borrowed from Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s period films. With Manikarnika, since there is no knowledge of the Balakrishna starrer to Bollywood folks, it comes across as direct take off on SLB visuals. There are a few remarkable shots that are beautiful along with an enticing background score. However, the overall tone is loud and looks like too much time has been spent on action rather than engaging content. The VFX looks cartoonish at few points. It was a big problem with GPSK, let’s hope Manikarnika is not a GPSK redux.

Check out the teaser below. Kangana Ranaut stars in the title role of Manikarnika, the Queen of Jhansi. Amitabh Bachchan has provided the voiceover. The movie will hit the big screens on Republic Day next year amidst tight competition.
