Karan-JoharMass entertainers and routine pot-boilers were made fun of by the critics in the North and Bollywood calling them ‘brainless masala entertainers’. Now, the same Bollywood folks have changed the way they look at mass entertainers that are made in South. Of course, ‘Baahubali’ made the B’Town folks start respecting regional cinema in South.

The filmmakers and produces of Bollywood are now able to understand how the film industries in South work and how big is the stardom of superstars down South. Karan Johar explained the same and also the logic behind high TRPs of Telugu dub movies in Hindi that are aired on television. In Bollywood, right now there is no director making the mass films as we make in South. That’s the big reason why these films like Allu Arjun’s ‘Sarrainodu’ get a lot of TRPs and also millions of YouTube views when available on the video sharing website.

These mass films are filling the vacuum the Bollywood makers have left behind by not attempting spicy masala movies that depict the hero, in larger than life roles doing a lot of action, single-handedly. Karan says that he admires the way South Film Industry is working on its own terms and the stardom the superstars enjoy among the masses. The big reason for the stardom is because of those mass movies, observes the Bollywood maker who distributed the two parts of the costliest movie before ‘2.0’, ‘Baahubali’.
