Ishaan Khatter and Ananya Pandey’s Khaali Peeli is the first notable Bollywood film to explore the Pay Per View model on the OTT Space. With all the films including the Direct Online Releases available at dirt cheap subscription prices, exploring the Pay Per View Model is imminent.
But then, we do not know if that is the greed of the OTT Platform or the makers but Khaali Peeli is ridiculously priced. The movie is priced at 299 Rupees which means it is much more than a Multiplex Ticket at many places. This will definitely push the audience to search for the Piracy mediums or skip the film totally.
That is a price the audience would even skip the film in the theaters. OTT comes with an option of the entire family watching at 299 but that would still not suffice. Khaali Peeli is a test case and should have been moderately priced so as to encourage the audience to pay per view but Zeeplex certainly let itself down.
Khaali Peeli will be premiered on Zeeplex on October 2nd as Gandhi Jayanthi Special. Zeeplex also priced its Tamil movie, Ka Pae Singham starring Vijay Sethupathi at 199 Rupees Per View which is also likely to receive a cold response. Both the movies already will have stiff competition from Anushka’s Nishabdham in Amazon Prime Video which will be the first preference for the South audience.
