In Bollywood, the competition among the young upcoming heroines is more than the heroes. It also doesn’t help them that they all have similar industry backing.
Alia Bhatt (the reigning queen), Sara Ali Khan, Janhvi Kapoor and Ananya Pandeya are some of the names that come on top of the mind. They all come from affluent families and are getting choicest of a project from their launch.
Among them, Janhvi Kapoor has the highest expectations and focus as she is the daughter of the late legendary actress Sridevi. So far, she has only one theatrical release Dhadak, which was a moderate success.
Janhvi Kapoor’s upcoming line up is also fantastic. Unfortunately, it is struck big time by the coronavirus pandemic. The issues here arise as the two movies she features in are complete or close to completion.
The makers of Gunjan Saxena and Roohi Afzana are both looking at an OTT release for these movies. It is the sheer bad luck of Janhvi Kapoor that both the films were planned for a summer 2020 release.
In the highly competitive environment in Bollywood, two marquee projects missing theatrical release could prove to be a big blow. They had the potential to be a critical and commercial success. As it will be a long time before the third one from Janhvi Kapoor comes to cinemas, it is an advantage for her competitors, no doubt.
