No new airport for AmaravatiThe state government reportedly withdrew the idea of international airport in Mangalagiri. The project is removed from the final Master Plan draft according to sources. Instead the state government will only develop the existing airport in Gannavaram.

Already 400 acres are being acquired for the airport expansion. The state government reportedly arrived at this opinion after experts advice that the airport will not be financially feasible due to close proximity to Hyderabad and Chennai airports.

Government is of the opinion that the airport can be taken up in future if the need arises. This decision will also come as a relief to state which is under several financial crunch. The final Master Plan draft will be put up in public domain very soon.
