telugu couple US H1 B fraud Ecomnets companyAn Indian-American couple was recently convicted for defrauding about 20 million USD in a major scheme which involved a network of shell companies among other illegal activities. The couple, Raju Kosuri, 44, and Smriti Jharia, 45, were residents of Ashburn and were working with four other co-conspirators.

Apparently, they had illegally applied for over 800 unlawful immigration benefits misusing the H-1B visa program. The whole set up included several shell companies which they presented as different independent businesses looking for Indian workers. The immigration authorities would then give the pass believing them to be independent businesses when, in reality, they were owned by Mr. Kosuri.

The couple are looking forward to almost 30 years of imprisonment after being charged with H-1B visa fraud by the Department of Justice.
