With Telangana state becoming a reality, the new state is getting every thing on its own feet. It is now said that the state will also get its own Doordarshan channel. The current DD Sapthagiri will continue to cater the needs of Andhra Pradesh state. It is currently headquartered at Hyderabad. DD will be shifted to Vijaywada station as a 24-hour channel.
And now the Union Information and Broadcasting Ministry is planning a separate channel for Telangana state. Sources said the channel is proposed to be named DD Manjira or Yadagiri. The content up to 80% will shared from DD Sapthagiri and rest with exclusive content for Telangana is needed. A 24-hour channel would require an investment of about Rs 17-20 crore. Manpower investment of about 100 people including engineering and production staff will also be required.
