For yesteryear cine-goers, Jayachitra had been a house-hold name because of the variety of female-oriented characters she played in Telugu films besides playing heroine for superstars like Krishna, Shoban Babu, legendary ANR, NTR, Murali Mohan etc of 1970-1980s era. Though she hails from Andhra, she has settled in Tamil Nadu.
Though we hear very less about the senior actress these days, the latest buzz is on a robbery that happened in her house. 25 kgs silver jewellery worth Rs.9 lakhs was stolen from a safe in her house in Mahalingapuram. This jewellery was donated by the actress to the Lord Vinayaka Temple which is in her house compound. The priests adorn the dieties with this jewellery only during important occasions.
As the ornaments were stolen from Jayachitra’s house, police suspect that it might be the work of the insiders without whose help the robbery wouldn’t have been possible. Police registered a case on the robbery and thus investigating the case with the help of CCTV footage at the temple and at the portico of the actress’ house.
