Director Mani Ratnam has not just been down but almost out of the game for a good part of the last decade thanks to his films bombing one after the other. It had a lot to do with the risky films he made but none showed any commiseration on him rather it was his goodwill that pulled him through.
It reached a stage where he had to prove that he still was in control of the box office and not a complete lost case. He started Ok Bangaram with this challenge and today he feels vindicated. The film is doing well in Tamil Nadu despite a mass blockbuster in competition. But it’s the performance in US that showed his true strength.
The film in two languages combined has grossed above $800K. Only a handful of films that involves the likes of Rajinikanth, Shankar and Kamal Haasan have reached those numbers highlighting the league that he belongs too.
