Special Status for Andhra Pradesh for a period of 10 years is one of the vital poll promises of BJP to the residuary state. Even after 100 days of the Union government formation, Andhra Pradesh still awaits the special status which will attract the investments to the state. However experts say that the special status is delayed due to NDA government’s decision to disband the Planning commission.

In general, planning commission looks in to Special status requests but with it disbanded, it is not clear whether the finance ministry or the commission that will be formed in the place of planning commission will take up the special status request. However the ruling Telugu Desam Party is confident of getting the special status from the central government and they say Modi’s government is brain-storming as to how to keep the promise of according SCS to AP.
